Competence-Based Education and Training connects knowledge, practical skills, professional values and sound judgement.
ACADEMIC PURPOSE · PRACTICAL CAPABILITY
Define what a learner should be able to do and the quality expected. For example: analyse a water-quality dataset, justify an intervention and explain its limitations.
Use a rubric or performance standard so learners can understand what counts as competent work. Explain the evidence required before the task begins.
Guided practice and formative assessment reveal gaps while there is time to improve. Learners should reflect on both the result and the reasoning used to achieve it.
Use projects, demonstrations, cases and portfolios where appropriate, supported by examinations and other approved assessments. Attendance alone does not establish competence.
Verify authorship, moderate assessment, document feedback and record decisions. AI-assisted work must follow the module’s rules and preserve the learner’s responsibility for the submission.
Competency-oriented learning operates within the approved NIU curriculum, credit structure and assessment regulations. It does not automatically remove semesters, examinations or minimum practical hours.
