How Hybrid Learning at NIU Works

Connected learning: online preparation, live engagement, supervised practice and evidence of achievement.

ACADEMIC PURPOSE · PRACTICAL CAPABILITY

Prepare online

Work through assigned readings, short explanations and practice tasks before the teaching session. Download available materials early and record questions for discussion.

Engage with a tutor

Use scheduled live online or campus sessions to examine difficult ideas, test reasoning and receive guidance. Check your timetable for attendance requirements and recording arrangements.

Practise in the right setting

Complete projects, laboratory tasks, simulations, placements or fieldwork in the setting specified by your programme. Clinical and other regulated practical work requires approved supervision.

Receive feedback and improve

Submit formative work, review the rubric and use feedback to strengthen performance. A formative task supports learning; the formal award decision follows the approved assessment rules.

Demonstrate achievement

Present the required evidence through examinations, practical demonstrations, projects or portfolios. Assessment should verify both understanding and the ability to apply it responsibly.

Plan your week

Allow time for preparation, taught sessions, practical work, assessment and reflection. Workload varies by module and credit load; consult the module guide rather than relying on a universal weekly estimate.

Plan your hybrid study

Select the arrangements you have checked. This is a planning aid, not an admission assessment.
